about

Voleurs wrote their debutalbum more or less above the clouds or more precisely on the 19th floor of a high-rise building in Cologne, just 20 square metres of floor space, but the whole city in view. Maybe that’s the reason why their music stands a little way away, is very individual, but comes close to everyone somehow. Robert Lindauer, the deep-rooted Atariveteran, is equipped with sorts of old synthies und samplers and musically shaped by acts like Skinny Puppy, Mireille Mathieu and the Legendary Pink Dots. Add the singing of Katrin Ohlmann, something between broken chanson, Hanin Elias and church choir, and you get a wave-like, fragile sound, which sometimes even punches you from behind (hm…). The lyrics are dripping wet with melancholy although they are often dealing with new beginning (recommencement?) and the sun. Probably it’s so because every beginning also means end and in all Voleurs songs there’s a note of it in every line. Maybe that’s why both of them love reverb so much.
