Split Shapes and Divisive Models is formed from the noise of analogue sources which are not designed to create sound. Normally passive audio mixers plugged into themselves and each other become eccentrically active beat machines and harmony generators, impelling the no-input mixer toward unexpected inclines of unstable minimal techno and other sounds usually provoked by clocks and sequencers. Self-aware oscillations reflect iteratively and become extroverted eccentric declarations, and through volatility comes a mutable balance, chaos divided by chaos somehow subsides to an unforeseen order. Void Hands is Richard Knight with additional input from Jürgen Ehrmann. Together they have developed a unique approach to no-input mixer technique strongly led by rhythm and abstract groove. Knight has performed with no-input mixers around the UK over the last decade in solo and collaborative guises, often improvisatory, and also produces computer music. Ehrmann is based in Berlin and creates techno with an emphasis on low-tempo minimalist structures.
