Artist
Vitus Castor started out 2006 with a crappy PC, Reason and enthusiasm to create electronic music. Over the years the equipment got better but basically the core is the same still; PC, software and the need to make sounds. The Name Vitus Castor started from an idea to create an alter ego. The original idea was that through an invented identity, you could express, examine and cultivate those parts of your personality that are culturally and socially conditioned in the society’s “official” identity. This is linked to Jung’s concept of a shadow personality. There’s a video under this writing to which pretty much explain the whole idea. It could be that one of art’s true missions is to lead a person to find out who he/she really is. Despite this philosophical background, Vitus Castor is a music project. In the future the project might develop to express and study that original idea in more depth. The first album took six years to get completed as there were LOTS of other stuff going on. But slowly, making a track here and another there, eventually there was enough tracks to get the album together. The first album got the name ‘The Exile” as it was done ‘in exile’. Songs have been made in various locations and in various life situations. Sometimes creative projects work as the glue that keeps all the pieces together. Vitus Castor has been heavily influenced by such artists as Aphex Twin, Venetian Snares, The Chemical Brothers, Dom & Roland, Amon Tobin, DJ Shadow, Saul Williams
