Chicago owes a lot to Iowa. When Iowans agree on something good it can go all the way to the top- be it a presidential candidate with an unusual name- or a bunch of great musicians who manage to sound both contemporary and retro at the same time. Formed in early 2007 in Cedar Rapids, VitalLight brought together alt-rock guitars, vintage synth sounds, and a strong voice that is stadium-sized with a dedication to really big shows even in small clubs. Upon moving to Chicago for both educational and musical opportunities, vocalist and lyricist Adam Novak, bassist and synthwiz Ryan Loftsgaarden, drummer Cody Witt and guitarist Mike Tracy have quickly become one of the hardest working original bands in the Midwest. A successful seven-song CD EP recorded in Los Angeles, "Turn On," filled with songs that ain't just talkin' 'bout love, is just a taste of the what is to come. New recording has begun with hopefully a release after their forthcoming West Coast dates. These young rockers are serious about their music and performance and in concert the joy of the moment is contagious, creating a rapidly-growing fan following. That euphoria lasts post-show and be assured that VitalLight is not just more alternative angst- that fun and humor is essential to their attitude.
