The focal point of the project is the cello and the way its melodic features contrast with an electro-acoustic soundscape but at times texturally blend perfectly into the electronically processed backdrop. I like to think of these two musical genders as two different universes (Tveir Heimar, in Icelandic). The relationship between these two elements quickly became the center of my work and research which has become the center of my life and consequently brought me to Iceland. The combination of the cello and electronic music represents me and it comes directly from the heart and not from the brain. It is pure emotion, feeling, and instinct. Through this I am also extending my classical training and knowledge by utilizing the cello as a sound object and thinking about its individual elements – the wood, the metal, the strings, the bow – but at the same time its resonating unity and soul. Collaboration with other musicians in the creative process is important to me. I feel that sharing knowledge and living this experience with others inspires my work. One challenge that I enjoy the most in this process is adapting my playing technique to different stylistic approaches to music and to leave my comfort zone. This helps me to discover myself musically and to constantly evolve as a musician – exploring the world through music.
