Despite reviews in Billboard hailing Vegas DeMilo as a band "on the verge of a national breakthrough" and Music Connection magazine naming them one of "California's hottest unsigned acts" they remained a relatively unheralded San Francisco Bay Area based pop rock band into the early days of the new millennium before dissolving. Formed in San Francisco in late 1997 with the intention to create "low-fi arena rock", their name was inspired by an obscure AC/DC lyric. Touring steadily up and down the west coast, the band's self-titled and self released debut CD on their own Starving Cowboy label was a favorite at many regional California college radio stations. Their sophomore effort, "Before It Gets Old", released in March of 1999, received additional airplay including some commercial rock stations like Live 105 in San Francisco) and KMBY (Monterey/Santa Cruz). Fronted by vocalist/guitarist Foster Calhoun, they released peaked with 2001's "Motel California" on the Pinch Hit label. lineup: Foster Calhoun - vocals/guitar Alec Johnson - bass/vocals/keyboards Gabe McCurdy - drums/vocals Travis Ballstadt - guitar/vocals Calhoun later joined up with The Mains.
