Artist
The limitless creativity of Vanessa Tomlinson has spawned significant contributions in the fields of solo percussion, contemporary chamber music and improvisation. As a soloist she has worked closely with influential European composers Vinko Globokar and Brian Ferneyhough, Australian composers Erik Griswold, Anthony Pateras and Liza Lim and commissioned numerous works from emerging artists across the globe. She performs frequently with a wide array of contemporary chamber and improvisation ensembles, including Australian Art Orchestra, Elision, Twitch and Clocked Out Duo, and directs Brisbane based Ba Da Boom Percussion. As co-founder of Clocked Out Productions she has directed award-winning musico-theatrical productions, organized and curated influential concert series and events. Increasingly her work involves hybrid forms, combining improvisation and composition, percussion and voice, cross-disciplinary collaborations with dancers and visual artists and cross-cultural collaborations. Examples of these include her work with Clocked Out Duo, her innovative arrangement of Kurt Schwitters' Ur Sonate, and collaborations with mover Jan Baker-Finch, artist/instrument builder Rosemary Joy, and Chinese composer Zou Xiangping. Current work includes Wide Alley (with Sichuan artists for Queensland Music Festival 2007), ÒMusic for the Banal, the Obvious, the EverydayÓ, Amazing Women concert series and new recordings of Foreign Objects for Terry Riley and The Toy Set by Clocked Out D
