Valeria Castro (full name Valeria Castro Rodríguez), born 28 April 1999 in Los Llanos de Aridane, La Palma, Canary Islands, is a Spanish singer and songwriter. From a young age she developed a passion for music — by age four she was studying piano and singing at the local Insular School of Music of La Palma. She later studied biotechnology at the Polytechnic University of Madrid alongside growing her musical ambitions. Her musical style draws on a blend of genres including flamenco, indie folk, and alternative rock. She made her recorded debut in 2021 with the EP chiquita. In 2023 she released her first full-length album, con cariño y con cuidado, which helped raise her profile significantly. Valeria Castro has gained wider recognition through both her solo material and collaborations with other artists. She has been publicly acknowledged for her songwriting: in 2023 she was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in the Best Singer-Songwriter Song category for “La Raíz,” and she won Best Song of the Year at the 2023 Canarian Music Awards. Through her music, Valeria Castro combines personal background, introspective lyricism, and diverse influences to craft a distinctive voice within the contemporary Spanish music scene.
