In 1992 Janne Liimatainen and Jarko Hedenius, two brothers from Helsinki, acquired an Amiga, their first proper computer. They took an immediate interest in making music. At first their band played techno and trance music. In a few years’ time they had the opportunity to purchase their first analogue synthesizer, a Roland SH-101. This launched the band into a new era of making music, with computer music taking a back seat. Later on the brothers added more equipment to their repertoire, including oscillators and filters made by Janne himself. The sound created by the band really began to move into new spheres at this stage, which gave a massive boost of inspiration. New ideas sprouted on a daily basis: vÄäristymä was born! vÄäristymäs’s genres today are experimental, acid house, minimal, ambient, techno and underground.
