Una Corda are a 5 piece instrumental group based in Birmingham England. They have 2 basses (who typically play in different octaves), 2 guitars and a drummer. The band features ex-members of illustrious underground acts - Cradle, Marker, Ackbar and Mistress. Their unorthodox line up makes heavy music for light sleepers, a darkly melodic epic soundscape carved out with black headspinning riffs. So far Una Corda have only released one EP,2005's four song debut entitled "Proper Position for Floating (1881), in which the song titles are numbered (one, two, three, four). The band is currently at work recording their first full-length album. From a purely influential perspective, the moody, largely instrumental work of THE CURE at the end of the 1980's seems to have had a substantial impact. Don’t let the comparison turn you off though, as fans that like the contemporary work of bands in this style should also find UNA CORDA appealing. The serene aspects of ISIS' "panopticon" provide another appropriate comparison. The music also has influences from and draws parallels to and should appeal to a broad range of fans of bands such as pelican, mogwai, godspeed you black emperor, RED SPAROWES, SIGUR ROS and other post rock/post metal bands, but the music sounds different from these other bands and is very original. A great band to see live and a and highly recommended one. http://www.unacorda.co.uk/ http://www.myspace.com/unacorda User-contributed text is available under the Creativ
