UMMAMUUDU (IN ONE´S OWN WAY) is a seven-member folk and pop music group from South Estonia. HISTORY Four schoolboys who had got voice placing in children's singing group VÕRUKAELAD took up in a town called Võru in April 1989 the available instruments - contrabass, guitar, violin and mandolin and started to make country and folk music. Considering their musical knowledge at that time, this style was the easiest and bearably performable. AIMS Any manifestations of the band's way of being are comprised in its name - in one's own way or, in the Võru dialect, UMMAMUUDU. This name underlines the origins of the band and its musical orientation. By performing mostly folk music and their own compositions, their songs in the Võru dialect, the group tries to emphasize the culture of their birthplace. The main purpose of the group is to modernize folk music and perform their own creations. The band has proceeded from the idea - the songs should be either modernized folk music or their own creation ( also including the pieces particularly composed for the group). Band's own creation is definitely similar to the music of other groups, because the members of UMMAMUUDU who are as well the authors get inspiration from them according to their own tastes, but direct covers are not in favour.
