Uli Rennert (* 25 September 1960 in Frankfurt am Main; † 5 February 2021 in Graz was an Austrian jazz musician (piano, synthesizer), composer and university teacher. Rennert was born the son of the opera singer Anny Schlemm and the conductor Wolfgang Rennert. From 1967 to 1979 he had lessons in piano with Norbert Brecht, composition with Hans Kracke at the Dr. Hoch'schen Konservatorium in Frankfurt am Main. From 1976 to 1979 he studied trombone and jazz ensemble playing with Albert Mangelsdorff. From 1979 to 1987 he continued his studies at the Jazz Department of the Graz Musikhochschule with Harald Neuwirth and Helmut Iberer; during this time he attended seminars with George Gruntz, Rob Franken and Peter Herbolzheimer. In 1984 he was a prize-winner in the international competition of the U.S. Keyboard Magazine, combined with a scholarship from the Berklee College of Music. In 1987 he obtained the concert diploma in jazz piano with distinction at the Musikhochschule Graz. He became an Austrian citizen in 1993. Uli Rennert passed away on 5 February 2021 at the age of only 60 after a short serious illness.
