"A soulful, revelatory, sonic experience". That is what you get when you mix the lyrical finesse of Tyson Amir with the bionic beats of Ridwan Bass; better known as onBEATS. The duo, who met in 2003 while pursuing individual projects, were in awe of each other's musical prowess. Tyson was touring with the Remarkable Current Collective, while onBEATS was producing and beat making for artists such as Planet Asia, Rasco, and Stones Throw. Still, when they crossed paths (which they often did), they could be found vibing to the same rhythms. Although their musical careers had taken divergent routes, they were both heavily influenced by the San Jose underground music scene. They both wanted to make music that transcends the ego and inspires their listeners to a higher spiritual plane. The pair manage a balancing act between their seemingly opposite personalities and the different gifts they bring to the music making process. While Tyson feels at home on stage, commanding the crowd and pouring his heart into every performance, onBEATS is more of the behind-the-scenes type, devoted to his beat machine and in his own world of constructing sounds, rhythms, and melodies.
