Coming up in Detroit's cutthroat and competitive battle scene Ty Farris was fast to gain respect and notoriety for his sharp lyrics and clever wordplay. After releasing several well received mixtapes with Young Famous, that caught the attention of D12’s Proof, the ball really started rolling. Accolades including Detroit mixtape of the year for ‘Hoodfellaz’, a 50 day opening slot for D-12, playing such venues The House of Blues, and killing support slots with the likes of Young Buck, Ludacris, and Slum Village, indicated Ty Farris’ career was set to blow up. However an unexpected tragedy, the loss of best friend and mentor Proof had meant this momentum came to a standstill. Ty Farris and Young Famous were once again independent artists, and starting from scratch they clearly had something to prove. This was obvious when they dropped ‘The Inheritance’ and ‘Back to Business’ two of their most impressive and cohesive mixtapes to date, their single ‘Set it Off’ received a lot of radio play and the transition from mixtape battle rappers to well rounded artists was definitely coming to fruition.
