The band was started in 1999 under the name JHIC (Joining Him in Christ) when the three guys, Sean, Marvan and Jeremy, decided to take part in a variety concert at their high school. With Marvan and Jeremy having just started to learn their instruments, they had to work hard to get their first song (Johnny be Goode) ready for the concert. After a few months the band decided on a new name after hearing a teaching from 1 Chronicles 25:1, 6-8: "David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals. All these men were under the supervision of their fathers for the music of the temple of the LORD, with cymbals, lyres and harps, for the ministry at the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman were under the supervision of the king. Along with their relatives - all of them trained and skilled in music for the LORD - they numbered 288." The then current band members (who each representing one of the 3 fathers whose sons were set apart) had the vision of making music in church and leading people in worship (also prophesying) by using their instruments skillfully for the glorification of God. The guys then got involved at their local church, Walmer Methodist, in the worship teams, youth and Sunday services, where they grew their gifts in worship leading and youth ministry.
