Turning Plates are an award winning group of musicians based in Glasgow. Using their diverse classical, jazz and rock backgrounds they create an experimental and uniquely style. Founded in 2009 their mixing of synthesizers and effect laden guitars with the more melancholy sounds of clarinet, cello and trombone, combined with the use of unusual time signatures, have led to the band quickly finding a distinct and individual sound. The band cites an eclectic mix of influences from Radiohead and Sigur Ros to Baroque music. In 2012 the band toured both the UK and the East Coast of the USA. In 2011 the band released their critically acclaimed début EP Escapism, recorded at Glasgow’s prestigious Chem19 studios with producer Jamie Savage. The band also won an award in Playmusic Pickup magazine’s unsigned band competition in 2011 for their single Tin Man (available online here - Turning Plates interview on page 32). The band have gigged frequently in Scotland doing both electric and acoustic shows, supporting several touring bands including Silversun Pickups, Admiral Fallow, Scanners and Slaraffenland..
