In early Hindu philosophy, Turiya is a state of pure consciousness, the experience of ultimate reality and truth. It is the fourth state of said consciousness that underlies and at the same time transcends the three common states of consciousness. There are two bands named Turiya: 1) Turiya is a melodic metal band out of Willits, California. Ryan is a former member of the thrash/metal band Soultorn. Later, Ryan worked in the death metal band Amidst the Blood and Black. Mike is a seasoned guitarist previously known for his work in the band Mummification, and Dan is well reputed, having played in many bay area and Seattle based bands in the past 2) Turiya is a new age music project by Vincent Pierce Smith, a multi instrumentalist, teacher, recording engineer, and composer born in New Jersey, USA, together with Kartikeya Arul. Vincent’s latest release is a full length instrumental album called, “The Transcendent State”. The music features Hang and Halo drums, Tabla, Cajon, and synths.
