Troy Genius was born in St. Ann, Jamaica on the 14 th of November, with music in his blood. His father, Wallace Wilson snr., who was also a talented musician, composer and arranger co-produced on projects for American song-writer & musician Paul Simon. He was also a part of the Byron Lee & the Dragonaires band for over 30 years and also co-produced for Jimmy Hendricks. Troy Genius has credited his father as his main musical influence because he gave him the things that were to become hallmarks of his music, which were an inventive and open mind. He grew up in Ocho Rios, Jamaica where he got his early performance experience, at the tender age of four years old entertaining alongside his older brother Richard Barr, also a very talented musician who has worked with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Cliff and Diana King. At the age of nine he moved to Kingston where well-known Jamaican musicians and producers like Glen and Danny Browne and Gussie Clarke introduced him to the wonders of studio recording. Though he enjoyed music, he got a real taste for entertaining for the masses when he performed at his alma mater, Meadowbrook High School. He later shared the joy and fever for music when he performed with his younger brother, Wallace Wilson Jr., A.K.A. Red Rat, which changed his life forever. Being an all around musician joined with creating and mixing rhythms in the studio and voicing he later played the drums for most of the top Reggae/Dancehall acts out of Jamaica such as Been
