As of May 2007, the only concrete information that has been uncovered about their beginnings is the following. In the late 90s, Brian, while passing through India on a mission to uncover a lost golden scimitar, met and struck up a parnership with Ernie, who was in the middle of a 5-year vision quest. The duo travelled for months, and then rented practice space in Munich. Sleeping on beds made of aluminum cans, they began the process of forming a band using the "Mindshadow Method," which they had learned about in China. This method involved no actual songwriting or playing instruments. Rather, the bandmembers projected their souls into the astral plane, on a quest to discover their unique Spirit Gem. After trying for a year without success, the two musicians decided to recruit a third member. Local legend told of a drummer who had survived a horrible tractor accident, and whose arms had been replaced with Piston-Powered Bionic Megaprongs. Finally tracking him down, Steve Quantize Budney said he would join their band, but only if they could pass his 3 Challenges. There is much debate over the nature of these challenges, but we do know that Brian has sported a meter-long scar on his back ever since this time.
