In 1997 Kman moves from rural country studio to Montreal. He has a pickup truck full of possessions with no place to live. Determined to put together the best band in the world, he begins meeting people at clubs in the art-filled Plateau region of Montreal. The quest for musicians begins. Kman who grew up around reggae music falls in love with the raw expression of punk rock and envisions a sound in his head. After a few attempts at finding the right souls to play in Trip The Off, the "Police The Cops" dub influenced E.P. is recorded. Not 2 weeks later do show offers begin to roll in. TRIP THE OFF lands the opening slot to one of their favorite band"The Fun Loving Criminals" at the Cabaret in Montreal. Knowing this was an opportunity to impress TRIP THE OFF kicks it into highgear even though they were asked to "tone it down a little". The French press picked up on this right away in a concert review of "The Fun Loving Criminals" by raving up the home town boys. Eager to release a full length cd, TRIP THE OFF released their self-titled debut CD without any label backing as they never approached anyone, determined to do it on their own. Their naive approach was endearing to many and they sold nearly a hundred copies at the release party. The following couple of years are spent playing a lot of shows (over 150 self produced) including an East Coast tour, playing with "The Kingpins", "Colectivo","General Rudie", "King Cobb Steelie", "The Sadies",... and on and on.
