Triosence is a German jazz band founded in 1999. The trio initially consisted of Bernhard Schüler (piano), Stephan Emig (drums), and Matthias Nowak (bass), who was replaced by Ingo Senst. Since 2019, the trio has consisted of Bernhard Schüler (piano), Tobias Schulte (drums & percussion), and Omar Rodriguez Calvo (double bass). Formed in 1999, Triosence has won numerous jazz competitions and national jazz awards such as winner of the national jazz competition “Jugend jazzt”, “1st Ostsee Jazz Festival Prize”, and a CD recording contract with the German national radio network, “Deutschlandfunk”. Their first CD, “First Enchantment” received fabulous critics in Germany as well as abroad and was nominated for the "Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik". The second CD "Away For A While" stayed in the German International Jazz Charts for over 6 Month. Triosence now got featured in the biggest German Magazines like Stern, FAZ, JAzzThing, Jazz Podium, Piano News, a.o. Abroad, their biggest success lies in Japan, where they are regarded as one of most successful young jazz bands. Triosence is not only the name but also describes the concept of the band. The “trio-essence” lies within the emancipation of piano, bass and drums. It’s achieved by Bernhard Schüler’s original compositions and the strong individuality of the three musicians.
