Trío Oriental, are considered among the best proponents of the music of Eastern Bolivia (the "Oriente"), and whose artistry has extended beyond those borders. Three young men with a natural inclination for singing, who long before had begun as members of other informal groups, which allowed them to gain musical experience and maturity. It was around 1966 in San Borja, a town in the Bolivian department of Beni, that they decided to form a vocal-instrumental trio: the accordion mastery and third voice of Hugo Daza, background guitar and second voice of Lorgio Dorado, musically frame the pleasant lead vocals of Walter Añez, who accompanies on guacharaca, an instrument that makes a rhythmic scraping sound. Together they create a new musical project which they name "Trío Oriental." Walter Añez: born in Concepción, Ñuflo de Chávez province, Santa Cruz, 22 Feb., 1945 Lorgio Dorado: born in the same city, 7 Jan., 1948 Hugo Daza: from San Borja – Beni, 15 Aug., 1947 Initially, the trio's repertory was the music of eastern Bolivia: taquiraris, carnavales and chovenas, a few boleros and some dance music . By 1967, after appearing on Radio Mendez in the city of La Paz, they attend the 4th Annual Lauro Song Festival in the city of Cochabamba, appearing in the typical dress and straw hats of the "Oriente," playing a small accordion and a creole guitar, and winm first prize in the vocal-instrumental category.
