Arising out of the relative isolation of northern New York state, Translucia unveil their captivating debut album, Ghostpheria, June 8th, 2000 on innovative Toronto-based label Plan Eleven. The group's eponymous debut ep, released in August, '98 on cassette and limited edition CD (100 numbered copies, now completely sold out!), introduced the haunting sounds of Translucia to the world through four lengthy songs that take the listener on an emotional journey. While certain to be tagged with descriptives such as "ethereal", "shoegazer", and "dreampop", Translucia create a music that is a direct expression of the personalities involved, and is an exploration of different musical languages. Based in Rochester, New York, Translucia have been molding their distinctive sound since October, 1995. The group was formed by Erick Scheid (ghostly guitars, treatments, electronics) and Cavalier Romagnolo (jet stream bass, electronics), inspired by the heavenly sounds of artists on such labels as 4AD and Projekt, as well as ambient, experimental, and psychedelic music - anything unusual and expressive! The duo went through several singers in early incarnations of Translucia before meeting up with Lisa Anne Grey. Lisa's unusual freestyle vocals perfectly complemented the unorthodox instrumental sounds being created by Erick and Tony, and her addition to Translucia in December, 1996, solidified the group's lineup and direction.
