Artist
Transistor Six is the musical project of Artist/Illustrator Frances Castle. She started making music in the mid to late 1990's on an old 4 track tape machine. Around about 1998 the Californian label 'Black Bean and Placenta' put out the first Transistor Six single (it was a one sided 12"!) The record became a John Peel favourite and got good reviews. Frances eventually abandoned her old 4 track, and got to work, chopping and splicing and sampling old sounds on her computer, until she had made some thing warped and weird and new. Singles on Elefant and many compilation appearances followed. In 2002 Black Bean put out the full length CD 'Johnny Where's My Purse?'. Transistor Six is just Frances, but she has collaborated with Sexton Ming, The Iditarod, Jesse Todd Dockery, and Teamforest among others. Half heard music from an open window. Old time attic sounds. London and the English country side, the Thames and pasture. Spaceage synths and the clang of a rusty gate. Victorian Streets and traffic lights. One girl trying to make the sounds in her head become real. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
