Since 2006, "Toxic Melons" has striven to maintain the philosophy of writing hooky, accessible Power Pop which unashamedly incorporates a range of influences from different decades. The Chief Melon, Paul Fairbairn is only 25, but displays the writing maturity of an established writer whilst at the same time being able to display a fun naivety within the lyrics and melodies. Toxic Melons influences range from artists such as - Jellyfish, Gilbert O Sullivan, Harry Nilsson, The Zombies, The Move, ELO, The Beautiful South, The Divine Comedy, Queen, The Beatles and David Bowie... to a lot of retro popular culture such as TV shows, old adverts and video games which The Chief Melon proudly wears on his sleeve as a personality defining trait....TGF Youtube! The feeling of fun, retro pop culture and nostalgia are all captured in Toxic Melons debut album "Melon Jam". Only the finest musicians were enlisted to help realise this eclectic project to it's maximum potential. Everything from Violin, Accordion, Harpsichord, Trumpet, Trombone, Sitar, Mandolin and yes...even slide whistle effortlessly capture the mood and atmosphere in each song and will tele-port the listener to the realms of their wildest imagination.
