Artist
Tony Ferrino is a spoof Portugese crooner portrayed by UK actor & comedian Steve Coogan. Ferrino was launched to the public by the release of the single "Help Yourself" (a Tom Jones cover) in November 1996. The B-side was the amusingly titled "Bigamy At Christmas". 2 spoof TV shows were shown in the UK at the start of '97. Shortly afterwards, the Tony Ferrino album "Phenomenon" was released on BMG. Due to Coogan's high profile, it was expected to be a huge seller but limped to around 1000 units sold. The album featured a specially recorded duet with Bjork on the track "Short Term Affair" and some of the set was co-written by Steve's brother, Martin (formerly of baggy Manchester band, The Mock Turtles). Commercially and critically, the creation was a Coogan failure and he has not performed any Ferrino routine for many years.
