Artist
Tony Crombie was a well respected jazz drummer in th UK in the 1950's. Like many similar jazz artists at that time, he formed one of England's first rock 'n' roll groups, Tony Crombie and His Rockets, to try to bolster his finances. Many jazz players did this before most of England's musicians had any idea how to play rock 'n'n roll (in the era of soppy ballads). He was a regular player with Ronnie Scott's jazz group and The Rockets was a sideline only. I met him during the 1980's (in Ronnie Scott's club in Soho, London) and he could hardly remember forming the Rocket's ! All other albums of Crombie's are jazz. but The Rockets don't sound too bad today. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
