Tombstones In Their Eyes is John Treanor (guitar, vocals, keyboards, songwriter), Josh Drew (guitar, bass, backing vocals) and Mike Mason (bass). The band was started as a cross-country basement demo project by John (in LA), and long-time friend, James Cooper (in NY). Collaborating via Dropbox and using Garageband, they recorded about 25-30 demos. John then recruited local friends Josh and Sam to fill out the project for recording, and they went into the studio. Recording and mixing the first record, Sleep Forever, record took about 2 years. The songs were recorded in Los Angeles at Kingsize Soundlabs and Kitten Robot studios. At Kitten Robot, where the band originally went for mixing, they developed a great relationship with the owner, Paul Roessler (who has been in too many bands to mention them all, including The Screamers, 45 Grave, Deadbeats, Nina Hagen, etc.). Paul really helped get the songs to where they needed to be, understanding what the band was going for. There are a variety of “genres” on the first record, psych rock, garage, rock, acoustic, singer/songwriter, but Paul helped them to all sound like they belonged together. For the next record, the Bad Clouds EP, the band went back to Kitten Robot and recorded/mixed the whole project with Paul. Sam was unavailable, so Stephen Striegel was brought in on drums.
