Tom Rooney is a writer of clever country tunes and heart breaking tales of woe. Maniac mothers and love-warn souls inhabit his zany musical world. The music ranges from Eagles and Jackson Brown style country rock to traditional Tom T Hall type country ballads. Penning the lyrics Tom works with musicians such as Phillip Wolfe, Al Snyder, Barry Hilgert. and other musicians who supply the music and record hia words. Tom has several tunes country artists with the help of the Nashville publisher the Paramount Group. Froggy Radio and WDVE-FM in Pittsburgh feature his music. Tom began his musical career singing with the UFOs. He was lead singer of the UFOs for four years during high school and college. Heavily R&B influenced, the UFOs played tunes by Sam Cooke, Wilson Pickett, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Smokey, the Stones, and the Animals. They appeared at school dances, weddings, and outdoor concerts. The City of Pittsburgh sent the UFOs to play Manchester, the Hill, and other neighborhoods in the summer closing down the streets for dancing. When most bands were playing Brit Pop, the UFOs had people dancing in the streets. In his day job Tom Rooney is a mover and shaker in the entertainment and sports business. He was president of the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL team.
