about

Cincinnati based folk/pop trio Toliver combines the best elements of story telling, musicianship, and pop sensibility with their debut full-length album, "Somewhere to Go." Their songs echo their eclectic group of influences from soul and do-wop, to funk, to modern singer-songwriters like Ben Folds and Jason Mraz. Far from just a backing band to guitarist Jeff Schear's enigmatic vocals and well-crafted lyrics, Toliver are that rare commodity in music today, a 3-piece capable of producing a full sound that is both enjoyable and complex. Bassist Brett Banks and drummer Jason Opliger are seemingly limitless in the range of music styles they can imitate and fuse effectively, producing a soundscape that is both groovy and theatrical. Though relying heavily on lyrical stylings and pop-inspired vocal hooks, the band has no qualms about letting the music just take over, and in the end, the poetry of the many jam sessions is just as potent as the modern-folk lyrics.
