Todd Hannigan's influence as a writer, performer and producer in award winning surf films has helped drive the modern surf sound. Recognized internationally for his work on the soundtrack to Jack Johnson’s “Thicker than Water” where he wrote and performed the title track (“Thicker”), Todd Hannigan’s debut album, Volume 1, brings together all the elements we’ve come to expect from his offerings so far. It’s driven by an elegant acoustic guitar, and backed by intricate orchestral arrangements that border on psychedelic. Hannigan’s simple, downbeat vocal style and direct lyrics draw comparisons to Nick Drake and Elliott Smith, though his own stamp is firmly pressed. “ Todd spent years on the road traveling the coast lines of Australia, Indonesia, Ecuador and Africa gathering as many experiences and influences as he could along the way. Besides the multi cultural influence in this rhythmic guitar playing some say that they can hear shades of Cat Stevens and Nick Drake in his vocals.
