TODD & KAREN is a Norwegian-Irish pop duo comprised of Øyvind Berge from Norway and Ina Verdi-Ruckstuhl from Ireland. They develop quirky, sardonic, and lyrical indie pop under this alias, rooted in late 60s-Beatlesque psychedelia and American West Coast pop influences. The duo met while working as schoolteachers at an IB primary school in Kongsberg, Norway, bonding through their shared musical tastes and sense of humor. After creating personalized birthday jingles for colleagues, they realized their musical chemistry and decided to pursue original songwriting seriously. Initially called "Quirky Haggis," a friend suggested the more understated name "Todd & Karen," which stuck. Their first recording sessions took place in late 2021/early 2022, working with producer Sigve Høghaug to create their debut singles "Mr. Beardsley," "Barbara Barbara Barbara," and "Cosmo Crowd," along with the track "L12." In 2022, the duo signed with Danish record label SXR Music Group. Drawing from influences including The Beatles, The Kinks, The Byrds, Beach Boys, and The Divine Comedy, Todd & Karen creates music that balances nostalgic pop sensibilities with contemporary indie songwriting. Their sound is characterized by clever wordplay, melodic sophistication, and a distinctly European take on classic pop forms, making their music well-suited for sync licensing in film and television.
