Toby-1 was formed in November 2000 from the remnants of Adelaide cult band Masongreystrange. Initially a studio project for Duann Scott to explore compositions based around the digital processing of analog, acoustic and found sounds, with the addition of the classically trained voice, flute and clarinet of Ruth Wilson, that has led to its current incarnation as a two-piece. After their inclusion on various compilation albums and live performances including a live set recorded at the ABC studios in July 2002 which was broadcast on national youth radio network Triple J, Toby-1 launch their debut album on Surgery Records. Toby-1's live performance has evolved over time to be an eloquent showcase of the highly original and astounding voice of Ruth Wilson resonating with the innovative audio illustrations of Duann Scott's musical compositions.
