Born in 1975 in Gothenburg (Göteborg), Sweden, this Swedish counter-tenor spent his early years there. He studied music at the Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet high school and is a qualified church musician and organist (Ersta & Sköndal University College 1998, University College of Music, Gothenburg University 2002) but throughout his student career specialised mainly in singing. His teachers includes Mikael Bellini, Kai Wessel and MariAnne Häggander. He has also attended master-classes taken by Barbara Schlick, Michael Chance, Emma Kirkby and Andreas Scholl. Tobias Nilsson is much in evidence as an oratorio and cantata soloist. He concentrates mainly on Baroque music, but has also given premiere performances of new compositions.
