Tobias Gruben (* 1963 in Athens; † December 2, 1996 in Hamburg) was a German underground musician. Born in Athens as the child of an archaeologist and an interpreter, Tobias Gruben grew up in Starnberg. He makes his first musical experiences, among others, together with Christoph Schlingensief in the band Die vier Kaiserlein. In the early 80s, he moved to Hamburg to found the goth rock band Cyan Revue in 1984, where he became the singer. After three records and several tours (including with Alien Sex Fiend), the band broke up again in 1987. Thereupon he co-founded the band Die Erde. The lyrics became more German and the music more industrial. After 4 records and again some tours (among others with Einstürzende Neubauten) this band also breaks up in 1990. For Gruben begins a confused time, which is expressed in the founding of the project Heroina, in which he deals with making music without fellow musicians. In 1994 he creates the band Sol, which changes its name to Die Erde II. A major release on the Hamburg label What's so funny about was planned for 1997, but Gruben died unexpected drug-related on December 2, 1996.
