To Russia was originally a five-piece rock outfit from Rexburg, ID. Comprised of Joseph Mecham (guitars), Ford Erickson (guitars), Scott Devey (bass), and Alex Fisher (drums). BUT as of April 2010, the lineup is Gary Becker (guitar, vocals), Ford Erickson (guitar, vocals), Aaron Mcgregor (bass, vocals) and Alex Fisher (drums, anger). The band officially formed in the summer of 2008. They quickly wrote and recorded two songs, "Millennium Force Versus Japan" and "Donner Party Like It's Nineteen Ninety-Nine." These demos were released for free download in July of 2008 through their Myspace page. As the band wrote new songs, they struggled with ideas of how to record and distribute their next release. The decision was made to just get the songs recorded and again make them available for free. The self-titled "To Russia" release is five songs recorded in the bands practice space. "Millennium Force..." and "Donner Party..." were both re-done for the album and are considered by the band to be vastly superior on this recording to the demos. All instruments on the album were recorded live. This recording style was used to portray a sound "as-close-to-live-as-possible" in the songs. The record was released for free download from the band's Myspace page on November 14. In May 2009, the band recorded 3 songs with Matt Winegar (Sparta, Primus), and intended to release them on a split with Provo, Utah band, The New Nervous.
