Tipsy Gypsies are a collection of people from America, England, Holland & Ireland. They came together through meeting on the live music scene in North London (The Pentameters Theatre @ the Hampstead Horseshoe, the Fiddlers Elbow, the Black Horse, Folk in the Cellar @ the Constitution & the Hemmingford Pub), taking their name from a poem by Naomi Foyle. Since then they've been working together in different set ups and formations. Singer/songwriter Paul van Gelder visited open mic sessions, playing his own material and cover versions before he met fiddle player Peter McNamara. Pete & PvG played several gigs as a duo in Aldeburgh and London before percussionist Danyael Davis joined them. Over the following years they've teamed up with Ben Metcalfe on electric bass, Marie McCormack on whistles, Robert Sean Murphy on electric guitar, and occassionaly Mick & Eileen Barker on fiddle & accordion. While Danyael has joined Zora and the Tatsmiths, Bobby's been concentrating on his own arrangements, Marie's been busy with the Northern Celts, and the Barkers are doing sessions at the Hemmingford on a friday night and Ben Metcalfe has de-camped to the south of England. In the mean-time Paul & Pete have been gigging their unique fusion of styles and influences as a duo again to keep the show rolling on the road. They are performing their eclectic blend of Folk & Roll, Celtic Pop, and World Beat with a distinctive flair on a regular basis, check dates & details for upcoming shows !!!
