Artist
Thrumbolt is one of the alias's of musician/producer Jason w. Smith. Born in rural Canada, Jason moved to the UK with his parents in 1980 and began absorbing an entirely new musical landscape. Jason began writing music with his brother Justin at around age 15 and they recorded some pretty crazy guitar-based stuff together, but Jason always leaned more towards the electronic, synthesiser side of things and pursued experimentation in that direction. After spending a large part of his twenties clubbing in and around London in the early 90's Jason decided to put more serious effort into making electronic music. Inspired by the music he was hearing out in the clubs and also his experience of the first ever "Big Chill" event at Union Chapel in North London, Jason began recording music under the "Thrumbolt" moniker. One track, "Beltane" a thumping trance affair, was released on one of the first ever internet-made compilation's of music, where all the artists got together to produce a promo CD without ever meeting in person! The empa3 project. A second track (B-side) by Thrumbolt was Afternoon Sun, a mesmerising ambient track. Unfortunately, due to many people's advice to "..Not Give Up the Day Job..", Jason has continued to work in the soul-crushing IT industry. He has however recently (as of Oct 2006) started writing again and will be releasing some new tracks soon.
