Harmonica players are usually thought of in a blues or rock context, but Belgium harmonica player Thierry Crommen www.myspace.com/thierrycrommen takes the instrument into new fascinating worlds. His quartet of acoustic guitar, piano and double bass are well versed in jazz, and most of the tracks have a freewheeling improvisational feel, with Crommen playing off the other three musicians. But that’s not to say he doesn’t toss in the bit of pop and blues at times, like on the bluesy “Mais Non!” or “What Changed?” which include some impromptu vocals. While Crommmen may be the leader, this is very much a group effort, with all the members sharing in the songwriting and soloing. A recording that works outside usual comfort zone for harp players. —Jim Lee (Simi Valley, CA) User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
