Artist
Theory Engine was born in Boston but hails from Bangladesh -- "the poorest place on Earth/where your fate/on your born date/is to gorge on waste..." After living in the motherland for a few years as a child, he grew up in Boston, Easton and suburban D.C., developing an affinity for all music -- but hip-hop in particular -- from an early age. In high school, he quickly and convincingly earned a reputation for destroying any emcee with whom he crossed paths. His freestyle ability continues to astound, while the penchant for wordplay and allegory evident in his writtens tends to confound. From 2000-2003, he was a satellite member of the group The Great North Special, joining a talented collective of MCs and instrumentalists. This ensemble included Mercury (The Dugout), Baje One (Junk Science, Nuclear Family), Armstead Brown (Peace Pipe Productions, Rhyme Calisthenics), LucasLewis (PhilHarmonix Industries) and others. He was featured on "United State of Panic," from the group's 2002 album "Earthdrop." Theory is also involved in rock 'n' roll, fronting the now-defunct Aaron Burr and the Swamp Pistols and singing for Snake Mountain, Jimi Zeppelin and the Earth People Orchestra. In 2009, Theory Engine released his first solo EP, "Sherpa on the Summit." The record features production from mR. id, Armstead Brown, LucasLewis and Theory Engine himself. He resides in Jamaica Plain. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms
