Make room. You can always make room for a great new record. It deserves to be in your life. Take it out and look at it, pull out the sleeve, read the liner notes, look at the pictures. Don’t even put it on; just think about it. I didn’t find The Weather – The Weather found me. It found me, uninvited, unsuspected, coming as it did with no liner notes and no pictures- just a friendly, hand-written note. It has now found a place in my life, and it fits perfectly. It found room. I know almost nothing about where The Weather came from. There’s a voice, sometimes two voices, and sometimes there’s one voice pretending to be two. There’s a songwriter, and some songs. Excellent songs. On a good day – or maybe on a bad day – these are songs that sound like he wrote them for me. (You’ll probably disagree. You’ll probably think he wrote them for you. Maybe you’re right.) The Weather found me three months ago. Since then it’s been jostled by The White Stripes and Blur, Lazer Guided Melodies and Sister Lovers, Summer Teeth and It’s A Shame About Ray: new records that surprised me and old records I’d forgotten were any good. This mysterious, anonymous demo reminded me of that, taking its place and then shuffling along to make room for others. It’s still standing there, a little off center, but I suspect it’s sticking around for a while. I haven’t a clue where The Weather is going. A bidding war, perhaps? Rapturously received live performance? No idea, I’m afraid. I just hope it goes
