The Vile Bodies are unwell. Corrupted, malaised, miserable and more. They are classicists, inspired by goth from its very source, rather than refracted through bulbless eighties youth centres. They have more in common with 12th century architecture and morality than OMD's Architecture & Morality. The Vile Bodies exist as John Ruskin wished them in his 19th century essay The Nature Of The Gothic and as Reggie Chamberlain-King decried in his celebrated On The Nature Of The Gothic; Or, An Easy Target Selected Solely Because Im Sitting In A Café Waiting For Someone And Cant Really Think Of Anything Particularly Deep Or Penetrating, But I Swear Ill Have Something Better For Next Month. Yet, still, in all, they know no cheer. Theirs is a purity that sets them against all. Theirs is a hope known only to fail. Theirs is Glum & Base.
