The Velvet Supernova is a Latvian rock band from Rīga, Latvia. The band was formed in 2010 by lead singer Jēkabs Zemzaris and guitarist Mārtiņš Rudzītis. Driven by strong musicianship, great vision and even greater ambition, The Velvet Supernova present a tempting combo of alternative rock bombast, anthemic melodies, a dash of electronica and contrasting acoustic ambience. The band can be best characterised when experiencing their energetic performances and all-involving appeal to performing music. Before the formation of The Velvet Supernova, nearly all members of the band have received academic education in the best Latvian music colleges, studying music composition, production and their instruments as well, bringing lots of knowledge and musical ability to the band. The band's biggest virtue is the ability to compose complex and challenging music in an alternative rock frame aesthetically. 2011 marks the band's radio debut with the single (Vive La) Resistance. The song received massive positive feedback in Latvia and carved a solid local fanbase for the band. Their second single, The Distance, brought the band more local airplay, thus introducing new fans to the band's music. Both songs premiered on Radio 101, the number one alternative radio station in Latvia. On January The Velvet Supernova played their first headlining show at Melnā Piektdiena, one of the biggest live venues in the country. The band are currently performing live and recording for their debut album.
