about

Clarence Earl Scott (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., 13 December 1937 - 7 May 2018) was an American doo-wop singer and songwriter. While a member of the Valets he wrote and sang lead for the song “Sherry”. Known to many as Scotty, he was born to the late Carrie Ann and Mitchell Scott on December 13, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Scotty was educated in the Philadelphia public school system, which he left early to help tend to his siblings. Scotty always enjoyed his music with a special love for the guitar. He started his music career at an early age on the streets at 36th and Melon as he listened to Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers and The Dominos, which inspired him. Scotty, Gary, James, Bobby, Eddie, and Frankie became The Royal Serenaders in the early 1950s. They were known to sing on the streets of Philadelphia. While a member of the Valets he wrote and sang lead for the song “Sherry”. He was also a member of the Castelles (one of the first doo-wop groups in the history of Philadelphia music) where he was the lead guitar player as well as the bass vocalist. In 1954, Scotty recorded “White Christmas” for The Drifters which is featured in the 1990 movie “Home Alone” and later in “The Santa Clause”. In 1959, he recorded “Love Potion Number 9” with the Clovers. Scotty wrote and sang many songs throughout his 30 year music career which faded into the background as he started a family. While doing what he did best (performing) at the Leader Movie in 1955 he was spotted
