The Train Set

In the mid-80s The Train Set emerged from the Crewe/Winsford indie music scene and started to make an impact on the Manchester and Liverpool gig circuit as well as the national music press. School friends Clive Jones (vocals), Andy Boote (guitars) and Mark Shaw (Bass) formed the nucleus of the band. They recruited Adam Halford (drums) from Winsford and Dave Hassall from Chester (keyboards). They were signed by renowned Manchester DJ Dave Haslam’s Playhard label and released two 12” singles. She's Gone/Untouchable/Sink or Swim was their debut recording in 1988 followed by Hold On/Harped On About You/All Blown Over in 1989. They were managed by Nathan McGough (also manager of The Happy Mondays) and toured the UK with bands such as the Happy Mondays and James. They featured in both the NME and Melody Maker with interviews and features by Stuart Maconie and Robin Denslow. Their debut single She's Gone was single of the week in the NME and the Manchester Evening News in August 1988, and they were described as 'rather wonderful' by the the Record Mirror. After a lengthy break, in August 2015 Firestation Records released the band’s singles and unreleased material on a compilation, ‘Never California’ garnering a lot of airplay along with favorable reviews. As of 2016, they are currently in the studio rehearsing.
