The Teddysexuals is not a normal three piece, guitar-driven rock band. It’s an evolving monster. Birthed nigh on a decade ago in 1997, the band has been a Sydney indie staple ever since. Playing primarily on the east coast of Australia from the Annandale to the Espy and at countless others venues in between, the original lineup of the band (Hamish Macarthur – vox and guitar, Tolly Day – drums, and Nik Talty – bass) has been sustained simply because they love to play in any place that will have them. Gig highlights to date include a pack of surfer gang ‘bra boys’ brawling on a Maroubra stage while the band didn’t miss a note, a chicken wire-encased stage on the Central Coast, and a group of enthusiastic lads from outside of Tamworth doing gymnast-perfect somersaults off of the Annandale stage. But of highlights there have been oh so many more… This group is sea-going and worthy. Their songs sneak onto surf-related viewing material while the band members sneak into the sea at every given opportunity – ultimately inspiring epic instrumentals like Hovercraft and Devil Horses, and albums of the same name. When not in the water they prefer to be onstage, thrashing their instruments, bodies and larynxes with reckless abandon and inviting the audience to let go in kind. A gig is not just a gig.
