The Symposium are an American indie-rock band formed in 2013 in Chicago, Illinois. Current members include Charlie Gammill (vox/guitar), Sam Clancy (guitar/synth), Benny Goetz (bass), Brian Buckley (drums) with Josh Gomez standing in for Buckley for the band's concerts in 2024 and 2025. The band is influenced by and has been compared to The Strokes, Mac DeMarco and Ty Segall[artist[/artist] among others. History The band was formed by childhood friends Sam Clancy and Charlie Gammill. The concept for the band was originally developed by Clancy who asked Gammill if he wanted to start the band during their time in high school. The two primarily write the band’s music. Prior to the Symposium, Gammill was a guitar player and had no experience writing music. The band's debut was an eponymous EP followed by Brain Jail on October 31, 2013, The band's debut album Drugs released on October 31, 2014, was compared to The Strokes. In 2016 the band returned with 2 singles and a live EP; Synth Song released on January 6 and Red River released on March 15 followed by The Symposium ov Audiotree Live released on September 7. The following year they released their second album which, like the band's first EP, was titled The Symposium. Released on April 20, it includes "Red River" and "Synth Song". The album was described as consisting of elements of indie rock and pop, as well as psychedelic rock and garage rock. It was followed by the non-album single Dracula's Lunch releas
