The Suspicions

There are at least two bands named the suspicions. 1. Influenced equally by 70's garage punks like DMZ and the Scientists and unlikely pop heroes such as Rick Springfield and Joe Jackson, Seattle's the Suspicions strip both genres down to raw jangly riffs and catchy, sing-along choruses. Formed in early 2004, the group consists of Karen Mitchell on guitar and vocals, Bryan Standridge on bass, both formerly of the Knock-Ups from San Francisco, and Boom Boom Records alum (and current Fe Fi Fo Fum) Nick Larson on drums. 2. The Suspicions was a pseudonym of The Flying Lizards. Apparently, the story is that Cunningham submitted this Flying Lizards song to Virgin in 1980 and they were not interested in releasing it, so he took the song to Arista who released it on a 7" under the name The Suspicions. "The Laughing Policeman" song is indeed a cover - an ancient English music-hall song credited to Billy Grey. For those Yanks not familiar with this style of pub sing-along, this subverted version will sound even more silly, surreal and odd. It's almost like something you would hear on a children's record or maybe sounding like something Monty Python would do, just processed carefully through the Lizards' wack-o filter.
