Originally created to be a solo lo-fi side-project by Chorba with alt-country overtones (listen to track 12 – “Hick Bars”), The Successful Failures evolved into a full frontal assault of a band with a sound reminiscent of Guided By Voices, Superdrag, and The Shins mixed with the jangly pop sounds of artists such as Marshal Crenshaw and The Moberlys. After deciding to turn SF into a “real band” Chorba added ex Late Night Television drummer Rob Martin on drums and NJ multi-instrumentalist, Ron Bechamps, on bass. With only a few shows under their belt and a handful of rehearsals the guys went into FDR Studio B in NJ to record the album over two weeks in July of ’05. Keeping the songs under the 3 minute mark and the production sparse, the band captured an exciting sound that should appeal to fans of a variety of musical styles. Upon the nation wide release of the self titled debut CD The Successful Failures plan to tour the East Coast and Mid-west in support of the album. To fill out the sound the band has recently added guitarist John Williams to the line up. Chorba has already written the material for their second album tentatively titled – Ripe for the Burning.
