There must have been more than 10 groups that recorded as The Starlets. 1. The Starlets were a female group from New Jersey formed in 1959, singing pop and doo-wop. They recorded the singles "P.S. I Love You / Where Is My Love Tonight" and "Romeo & Juliet / Listen For A Lonely Tambourine" for the Astro label in the early 1960s. Members went on to become The Angels. 2. The Starlets were a 1960s girl group that recorded for the legendary Chess label. The group started out as The Lovettes, before changing to The Gems. Dorothy Hucklebee, the lead vocal of The Starlets was a constant member though Vadine Harris and then Minnie Riperton were the main voices of the earlier incarnations. 3. The Starlets were a soul/R&B group formed in Chicago in Illinois in early 1961. Members were Jane Hall, Maxine Edwards, Mickey McKinney, and Jeanette Miles. They released singles such as "Better Tell Him No" and "My Last Cry" on Pam Records. They also recorded the song "I Sold My Heart To The Junkman" (originally by The Basin Street Boys from 1946), which was released by the Newtown label under the name of Patti LaBelle's group, The Blue Belles, and became a hit, prompting a legal case. After getting caught lip-synching on American Bandstand, Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles were sued by The Starlets; each member received $5,000 in damages. The Starlets broke up around 1963. 4. The Starlets were a Los Angeles based mid-'60s girl group consisting of Cathy, Sara and Gloria (last names unknown).
